This is George Bush’s accountability moment. That’s why I’m here. The mainstream media aren’t holding him accountable. Neither is Congress. So I’m not leaving Crawford until he’s held accountable. - Cindy Sheehan

Time out

My father-in-law died Monday after a long illness, and I haven't felt much like blogging. He was a good man, and will be missed.

There are so many good blogs out there. I find I enjoy reading them more than keeping one of my own, so I am going to close up shop here for a while. Please stay in touch, my email is always open and I don't intend to lose touch with the friends I have made here at Church. I will visit your blog and comment, and look forward to many hours of reading pleasure at your place.

Wishing you all the best for the holidays - good health, love and laughter,

Via

Murtha

I was so moved by his story about the wounded soldiers. How dare our cowardly Democrats give him a standing ovation in private, and then desert him as the Republicans began their attacks. They should be humbled by the honor he showed our troops:

"Our military's done everything that has been asked of them," Murtha said, regaining his composure. "The U.S. cannot accomplish anything further in Iraq militarily. It's time to bring the troops home."

"This is a flawed policy wrapped in an illusion!" he said, pounding the podium.

"I like guys who've never been there who criticize us who've been there," Murtha said. "I like guys who got five deferments and never been there and sent people to war and then don't like to hear suggestions that what may need to be done."

Not surprisingly

"the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion" said Alito in a document obtained by the Washington Times.

And the voters should not protect any Dem who supports his nomination.

Best title, ever!

URGENT! Please send 300 kilos of white mice. No time to explain.

What a great blog name, as well!

These people should be tarred and feathered and run out of this country on rails

From Capitol Hill Blue via WTF Is It Now??

'A confidential memo circulating among senior Republican leaders suggests that a new attack by terrorists on U.S. soil could reverse the sagging fortunes of President George W. Bush as well as the GOP and "restore his image as a leader of the American people."

The closely-guarded memo lays out a list of scenarios to bring the Republican party back from the political brink, including a devastating attack by terrorists that could “validate” the President’s war on terror and allow Bush to “unite the country” in a “time of national shock and sorrow.”'

Well, the neocons knew that it would take a "new Pearl Harbor" to allow them to launch their world domination scheme. They are hoping that lightning will strike twice.

and gasbags. "Charles Grassley (R-IA): You know, what--what makes our economy grow is energy. And, and Americans are used to going to the gas tank (sic), and when they put that hose in their, uh, tank, and when I do it, I wanna get gas out of it. And when I turn the light switch on, I want the lights to go on, and I don't want somebody to tell me I gotta change my way of living to satisfy them. Because this is America, and this is something we've worked our way into, and the American people are entitled to it, and if we're going improve (sic) our standard of living, you have to consume more energy."

Video at C&L if you can stand to watch him.

So if it was a Democrat...

start an investigation to expose him. If it's a Republican, block an investigation any way you can. Damnned hypocrites.

"GOP aides conjectured privately that Frist’s delay in signing the letter may have been caused by concern over the possibility of endangering a Republican senator by calling for the investigation."

The 9 Million Dollar Man

Jack Abramoff is paid $9 million by Gabon to arrange a meeting between these two presidents.

"This went through normal staffing channels," Trent Duffy, a White House spokesman, told the Times. He said the meeting was "part of the president's outreach to the continent of Africa."

That is outreach, all right.

The Yahoo article leaves me speechless.

"TOPEKA, Kan. - Revisiting a topic that exposed Kansas to nationwide ridicule six years ago, the state Board of Education approved science standards for public schools Tuesday that cast doubt on the theory of evolution.

Supporters of the new standards said they will promote academic freedom. "It gets rid of a lot of dogma that's being taught in the classroom today," said board member John Bacon.

In addition, the board rewrote the definition of science, so that it is no longer limited to the search for natural explanations of phenomena."

Catapult the Propaganda

See the video here, and then see where to get the real story.

from Kos

"...cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, student loans, agriculture subsidies and child support enforcement. The House measure would allow states to impose premiums and co-payments on poor Medicaid recipients for the first time.

So, hey, it's tough times in America. To pay for Katrina, and the Iraq War, and these massive deficits, we all need to pull our weight, right? Tough economic conditions mean tough choices, we all have to accept some sacrifices.

Well, not really. Because there's a more fundamental reason for these 35 billion dollar cuts. It's because the next budget item to be taken up will be another 70 billion dollar tax cut."

Republicans really DO hate poor children. Bastards.

John Dean

at Smirky

He is going to be "stunned" if no one else is indicted. Here is part of what he says:

"Indeed, when one studies the indictment, and carefully reads the transcript of the press conference, it appears Libby's saga may be only Act Two in a three-act play. And in my view, the person who should be tossing and turning at night, in anticipation of the last act, is the Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney."

he continues:

"His (Fitzgerald's) further example was also revealing. "Let's not presume that Mr. Libby is guilty. But let's assume, for the moment, that the allegations in the indictment are true. If that is true, you cannot figure out the right judgment to make, whether or not you should charge someone with a serious national security crime or walk away from it or recommend any other course of action, if you don't know the truth.... If he had told the truth, we would have made the judgment based upon those facts...."

Libby has thrown sand in Fitzgerald's eyes, momentarily obscuring the true malefactor in this case - Cheney. Once Fitz has had time to wipe his eyes and squeeze some of the other players in this deadly game, he is going to nail that bastard.

Chris has become a master

of 'catapulting the propaganda'. Only this time, it is the truth, rather than administration lies. He has been pounding home the fact that Cheney's office leaked false stories to the NYTimes, only to send out the big guns to close the sale on the Sunday talk shows the next morning.

Arianna has a great post.

As usual, the messenger will be shot

"If McClellan was part of an orchestrated effort to mislead the American people, he is unfit for public service. If he was fed false information and sent out to disseminate it, he should be angry -- and should have the professional dignity to sever his ties with a White House that put him in such a situation."

Scott is not the only one who should be angry. If he is unfit for public service, what does that say about Bush and Cheney, who certainly gave him his marching orders? They should be marched out of the White House in handcuffs.

A little touch of Harry in the night

Athenae reminded me of this. Truly, this story shall the good man teach his son.

This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian:'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's day.'
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
